Language

Indonesia doesn't have a specific official alphabet but uses the Latin script for its written language, a decision made during the colonial period by the Dutch. Bahasa Indonesia, the official language, employs the Latin alphabet with extra characters like "c," "q," "v," "x," and "z" used in loanwords. The language is praised for its phonetic spelling, enhancing accessibility for learners and promoting effective communication.

Weather During IHKS 2026

Indonesia typically experiences two main seasons: the dry season and the wet season. The dry season, characterized by sunny weather and minimal rainfall, usually occurs from June to September. On the other hand, the wet season, marked by heavier rainfall, typically takes place from November to March. Unlike some countries with four distinct seasons, Indonesia's climate is predominantly tropical, leading to these two primary seasons.

Tips & Taxes

Service charges are included in the bill for rooms, meals, and other services at hotels and upscale restaurants in Indonesia. Tipping is not commonly practiced in the country, unless someone is particularly satisfied with the service received. Foreign tourists can receive nearly a 10% VAT refund for purchases at duty-free shops. Goods must be taken out of Indonesia within three months of purchase to be eligible for a tax refund. Visitors can receive a refund by presenting receipts for a minimum purchase of IDR 50,000 (around USD 3.50) at the customs clearance desk when departing from Indonesian airports.
